29% of employees prefer the company brand of their
previous employers
According to a new study released today, 29% of employees
prefer the company brand of their previous employers, and a staggering 26% say
that their own personal brand does not fit with the brand of the company they
currently work for.
The research by Bute
Coaching Ltd, a leading expert in learning and development, is based on a
detailed online survey amongst business professionals drawn from across the UK
and from a mix of sectors. Margo Manning, MD of Bute Coaching, says: “Having over a
quarter of your staff saying that they don’t like your brand and that their own
personal brands don’t match up with the company’s can have a truly devastating
effect on both individual and business performance.” Indeed, and perhaps even worse, a staggering 45% admitted
that they don’t even think about their own personal brand, whilst 43% confessed
that they didn’t know or were not sure what others thought about them. Margo comments: “Without having a clear understanding of our
own brand and what it represents, how can we represent our companies to the
best of our ability? Brands are powerful. They drive us to choose products and
services over others. They turn us into advocates and fans. So it’s no wonder
companies invest heavily in developing promoting and protecting their brands.
So why do so few business managers and individuals invest in examining and
developing their own personal brands or the personal brands of their employees? As a result of the findings Bute Coaching are launching a
four day personal brand workshop. Working closely with the Bute Coaching team
delegates will participate in a series of reflective and proactive exercises. Margo explains: “Through identification of their own
personal brand attendees would like to work towards, the aim of the workshop is
to deliver a clear sense of the actions and tasks, both short and long term, to
achieve this. “Personal brand training and development could be brought to
bear quite neatly in the current business climate. Development would portray a
business as investing in its people, and could be focused on helping staff
maximise their personal brands, which would only improve the company’s overall
brand and bottom line, through increased motivation and
performance. This may also have the added benefit of increased
brand alignment and buy in from the staff. Whilst for
individuals attending it would help them set realistic and yet challenging
goals and more importantly achieve these goals. This would increase the
individual’s motivation to do better for themselves and their company.” The first personal brand workshop will take place in London,
Liverpool Street on 15th – 18thFebruary 2011. The
workshop will cost £3,995 (ex VAT) per person, for those who book before 1st February
they will receive a free coaching session worth £750. To book your place or for
